We left Cabbage Island and its "Little Mermaid" the day after Canada Day, heading for Portland Island.
A murky and grey day with confused small seas. Nothing major, but to top things off the currents were against us most of the time.... Either I misread/miscalculated my charts and tables, or it was a weird day. I think a combination of both is likely.
It was one of those days when I relish having a trawler. Adjust the heaters in the pilothouse as the engine warms the heating system up, keep an eye on your well positioned electronics and charts in front of you, and let the autopilot do it's thing.
We saw a few big guys of course, but since we stayed out of the traffic separation scheme, we didn't bother each other. No reason for us to get in anyone's way.
We arrived in Princess Bay much later than I had anticipated, and -as expected- found it was too small and too shallow for us. Arriving close to low tide didn't help either as it naturally makes the bay appear even smaller. So we moved on to the other side of the island.
